This morning we got picked up in a Gibson Guitar tour bus to visit their factory and learn all about how Gibson Guitars are made. When we arrived we met the heads of the Gibson Factory team and they gave us our tour. The factory is huge and it was beyond cool seeing a plank of maple or mahogany wood turn into a guitar of any kind. After that we went onto Epiphone for a tour. Here we met Dave Berryman, the President of Gibson (picture with him in front of oldest Gibson Guitar collection in the world). After telling us his story, he showed us a video on the history of Epiphone and Gibson. The video showed off Les Paul’s story too, the creator of electric Gibson Guitars.
Epiphone Guitars are made in Japan and then thoroughly inspected and tested at their main distribution center in Nashville. Each guitar tech/inspector are the best in the business and have to produce numerous flawless guitars a day. At Epiphone they track everything on the guitars from shipping conditions and route to the sound of each note to the production sequence. The fifteen point guitar inspection check list is fast but efficient. They take quality control and customer satisfaction very seriously. Under 1% of their guitars are ever returned and they have a twenty four hour turn around policy if there are any issues. Their mission is for guitar users to have the very best experience and they’re given a life time warranty. This is how Epiphone really markets themselves, and it is a very successful method.
After that we went onto Gibson’s Custom Guitar shop. Here we saw really beautiful and priceless art work on guitars. Then got back on the tour bus to head back to Belmont and ran into four guys that were friends with Les Paul and travel with his personal guitar collection. They came on the bus to let us see and play some of Les Paul’s guitars. Huge THANK YOU to Gibson for this unforgettable experience
